Summary

One volume featuring two action-packed tales from the universe of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Savage demons devour unsuspecting humans in Taisho-era Japan。 The Demon Slayer Corps wields special swords to end the devastation demons spread。 Giyu Tomioka—the sole Water Hashira—and Kyojuro Rengoku—a high-ranking Kinoe—travel on missions to eliminate demons and prove their mettle as two of the fiercest Demon Slayers。

Giyu heads north toward an area where hunters have been killed。 He and the Insect Hashira meet Yae, the daughter of a slain hunter。 Yae believes a bear killed her father, but the truth is harder to endure… Kyojuro also receives his newest assignment and hopes completing it will prove he’s worthy of becoming the Flame Hashira, the title his father abandoned。 An explosive battle unfolds as Kyojuro takes on a demon of the Twelve Kizuki with a grudge against Kyojuro’s father。

Thank you to NetGalley and Viz for a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review。Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba—Stories of Water and Flame was a fun supplement to the main Demon Slayer series。 Beautifully drawn and written by Ryoji Hirano, it takes readers deeper into the lives of two two Demon Slayer characters, the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, and the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Tengoku。The two stories did not delve into character as much as I had hoped, but they were still satisfying and t Thank you to NetGalley and Viz for a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review。Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba—Stories of Water and Flame was a fun supplement to the main Demon Slayer series。 Beautifully drawn and written by Ryoji Hirano, it takes readers deeper into the lives of two two Demon Slayer characters, the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, and the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Tengoku。The two stories did not delve into character as much as I had hoped, but they were still satisfying and told complete narratives。 I would definitely recommend this collection to current Demon Slayer fans, and a school or library that already has some of the main series would benefit from having this in their collection。 Story and Art by Ryoji HiranoOriginal Concept by Koyoharu GotougeTranslation: John WerryTouch-up Art and Lettering: John HuntDesign: Jimmy PreslerEditor: Jennifer Sherman 。。。more

This was an excellent pair of side stories。 Good dive into each character and good details to build up the development of both character arcs。

The Rengoku gaiden was soooo good!

This volume is a collection of the Giyu and Rengoku side stories, so this will kinda be like two reviews in one, because it is。 Tomioka Giyu Gaiden was the first of the two, picking up fairly soon after his first meeting with Tanjiro in volume 1。 I think the way these Gaiden stories focus on two Hashira at a time is a very good way to do it, cause seeing Shinobu appear in Giyu's story was a very cool and unexpected treat。 The story is nice, and Giyu and Shinobu are great characters。。。 But man, i This volume is a collection of the Giyu and Rengoku side stories, so this will kinda be like two reviews in one, because it is。 Tomioka Giyu Gaiden was the first of the two, picking up fairly soon after his first meeting with Tanjiro in volume 1。 I think the way these Gaiden stories focus on two Hashira at a time is a very good way to do it, cause seeing Shinobu appear in Giyu's story was a very cool and unexpected treat。 The story is nice, and Giyu and Shinobu are great characters。。。 But man, is Rengoku Kyoujiro Gaiden just SO much better。 Whether it be the new artist adding an insanely high quality to it, or just me liking Rengoku and Kanroji more so I was more invested, I was absorbed in this story。 I can't wait to see the next Kimetsu no Yaiba Gaiden spinoff。 Fingers crossed for Himejima or Shinazugawa。 🤞 。。。more
